To thirst for God means...

To thirst for God means to open our hearts to the flow of living waters that spill over into the lives of others. One result will be a thirst for what is good.
Thomas Gray, the English lyric poet who gave the world "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard," was known to thirst after good literature. He once attended a sale of books with a friend. One lot particularly appealed to him. It was an elegant bookcase containing a collection of finely bound volumes of French classics. The hundred-guinea price was beyond his means, however, and he voiced his disappointment at being unable to afford the shelf and its treasures.
He was noticed and overheard. The Duchess of Northumberland was acquainted with Gray's companion. She learned of the book-lover's identity. Later the same day she had the coveted bookcase and volumes delivered to his lodgings. It arrived with a note in which she apologized for making so small an acknowledgment of the intense pleasure she had derived from reading Gray's "Elegy."
In this case, a thirst for the classics resulted in a river of generosity.
