There is a Jonah-like quality in Frank L. Baum's classic story, The Wizard of Oz. The brainless Scarecrow, the heartless Tin Woodsman and the Cowardly Lion, together with the lost girl, Dorothy, set out to find the Wizard who will provide them that which they most need. Terrible and frightening things happen to them along the way. When they finally reach the Emerald City the Wizard, an illusionist, is ill-prepared to satisfy their needs. He sends them on yet another journey, believing with some certainty and hope that he won't have to deal with them again. He fears his fraud may be exposed.
