There are those moments of awe and deep joy as we worship. There is the occasion during worship in a Jewish temple when the Ark is opened and the scroll of the Torah is removed to be read. On especially festive occasions, the Torah may be bourne in procession among the worshipers who reach out to touch or kiss the holy scroll. On the occasion of a Bar or Bas Mitzvah, a young boy or girl reads from the scroll in Hebrew and then interprets the understanding of what has been read. Parents are proud, the whole family is proud and the whole congregation rejoices in celebration.
It must have been something like that for the people of Israel, now returned from long exile and reestablished in their homeland, when Ezra brought forth again the book (a scroll) of the Law and it was read to the people with understanding. God blessed them by restoring his Torah, his Law, to them.
As Christians, we may feel that we have more from God than just the book of the Law; we have the Word made flesh. I would remind you that the Word (Logos) in John's Gospel bears a great weight of meaning, and that one of the meanings, bound up in the concept of the Logos, is Torah!
