The Teka birthplace of the eighth century BC prophet, Amos, can be seen five miles south of Bethlehem at Khirbet Taqua, where a Byzantine church ruins are visible as a Propheteum. That is a shrine to an Old Testament holy man. This and the one to Moses on Mt. Nebo are two of the few so dedicated.
Amos cries out against the oppression of the poor by the wealthy and powerful, and against those who pervert justice by bribery. He says the rich and their property will be destroyed, as well as their shrines. "Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate." (v. 15)
