St. Paul used this passage...

St. Paul used this passage In his proclamation of the God whose gracious promise is not dependent on any human accomplishments or rite. (Romans 4) To be a son or daughter of Abraham is to trust in God as Abraham did. Abraham's anxiety is rooted in the absence of an heir, an obvious contradiction to the promise. It's hard to let God be God. Not long after this reassurance, Abraham and Sarah will take things in their own hands (Genesis 16) and create a human muddle. How we love to manage history. The Lord says, "I am your shield." Try preaching on that text in the heart of the Pentagon.
