Some things are so basic...

Some things are so basic to human life that, even if you've never put them into words or
if you can't explain them, you recognize them when they are accurately portrayed.
An elderly high school band director spent his last, feeble years in a rest home. He could speak only in grunted syllables. The activities director at the rest home was pleased to invite him to a musical event in the recreation room. A pianist accompanied two ladies who sang songs popular seventy years before. The women were not, however, accomplished singers. In fact, they sang every song off key. Afterward, as the elderly band director was led to his room he uttered, "Awful, awful, awful."
When Jesus portrays neighborliness, whether we practice it or not, we understand it when we see it ... and we understand when we see the lack of it.
