She was a Christian woman...

She was a Christian woman and proud of it! Yet something in her soul was withered and shriveled. Her love for God was profound (so she said), but for people she had only hard words, bitter complaints and harsh judgments. A harsh woman, she had been raised by a harsh mother. An active church woman all her life, she saw no need to include in her prayers a wish to "increase and abound in love for one another."
Is love for one another something which can be learned? Is it something which must be learned? The writer to the Thessalonians would have it so. Did this woman's lack of love come from never experiencing love during her formative years? Was she never taught by word or example what it is to love? Was her lack a lack of knowledge? Could she have learned to love? Was it too late for her to learn now that she was an adult? If love can be taught and learned, then perhaps the part of our soul which gives us the capacity for love abundant can also wither and die if not nurtured and watered and cared for with love.
