Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish citizen...

Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish citizen and a Christian, was instrumental in saving the lives of thousands of Jews during Adolf Eichmann's "final solution" for the Jews in Hungary during World War II. On January 17, 1945, Wallenberg was seized by the Soviets, imprisoned, and never seen again. In July, 1982, a Swedish official said that his government was working on the supposition that Wallenberg was still alive, though they had done almost nothing in all the intervening years to bring about his rescue. On October 5, 1981, Wallenberg became only the second person in history to be made an honorary American citizen. Winston Churchill was the other. When President Ronald Reagan signed the bill conferring this honor, he said that "we are going to do everything in our power" to locate Wallenberg. The United States did nothing to live up to that commitment either. Saint Paul in his text shows that God did keep his promise to his chosen people. Though we cannot fathom the mind of God, and though the evidence may seem to point elsewhere, we are assured that God has not rejected the people whom he foreknew.
