President Calvin Coolidge was a man of few words, for which he acquired the nickname, "Silent Cal." One night at a banquet, a lady was seated near him at the head table. During the meal she said to Coolidge: "Some of my friends bet me $10.00 that tonight I wouldn't get more than a couple of words out of you, during the entire evening." The President eyed her for a moment and tonelessly replied: "You lose."
