The power of this parable...
Illustration
The power of this parable and its interpretation lies in the production of a crop, the good soil which produces fantastic results. Our goal is to be sure we are the good soil, that our lives can receive the seed, hear the word, and understand it. When one of my sons was a teenager, he drove like a maniac. After the third wreck in MY car, I took the car keys away from him. He was furious. "Why," he said, "there's nothing wrong with the way I drive. I'm a good driver. Let me have those keys back." I replied, "If you're a good driver, then there's nothing wrong with the way you drive, and if there's nothing wrong with the way you drive, you won't make any changes, will you? That's why you're not getting the keys back." Good soil means we are able to look at our lives and honestly admit that there are things that need to change.
