A pastor's wife once asked me, "Do you know the difference between kindness and loving-kindness?" Well, I didn't know, even though I was aware that the Bible often speaks of the loving-kindness of the Lord. "What is the difference?" I asked.
She said, "When a little boy comes home from school and tells his mother he is hungry and wants something to eat, and she gives him a piece of bread and butter, that's kindness. When she puts strawberry jam on it, that's loving-kindness."
