A pastor in a small town once remarked that people would often stop him in the street or in the store and tell him their troubles. Many times they would speak to him about people he did not know, of individuals who lived in other states. These conversations usually made this pastor feel helpless. He didn't know what he could do for people he didn't know and who didn't live nearby. He would always tell the people, after hearing them share with him the problems of others, "I will pray for them." Then one day he realized that he hadn't kept his word. He didn't pray for them. So he started to write down the names of all of whom he had been told were in need of prayer, and each night he did indeed pray for them. When people shared with him the troubles of others, he no longer felt helpless, as he knew that there was something he could do for them --he could and did --pray for them, knowing that there is power in prayer.
