In Par Lagerkvist's novel Barabbas, Barabbas interviews Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead. Barabbas asks the question of Lazarus that everyone else had been afraid to ask, "The realm of the dead. What is it like there? You have been there! Tell me what it's like! What is it? This thing you have experienced!" Lazarus answered that he had experienced nothing. He had been merely died. And death is nothing. Lazarus explains that the realm of the dead is not anything. It exists, but is not anything. Lazarus had told others how Jesus had raised him from the dead.
