(P, C)
I have great admiration for St. Paul, though sometimes I find him exasperating. Most of all, I admire the the true depth of his faith. His claim, "Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ," is either the most conceited line in Scripture, or the greatest confession of faith. All things considered, I believe it is the latter. Paul was so sure that he was living his life, so far as he was able, after the example of Christ, rather than according to his own wants and needs, that he could confidently lift that life up as an example for others.
I have often used the lives of others as examples of faith and Christian living; but I have never felt I could use my own. But, in truth, if I really am living for Christ, why should I hesitate to do so? Of course, it is still not easy for me to do -- but in thinking about it, I am forced to examine just how much my life is in line with the demands of the gospel. Could my life be used as an example of Christian living? If not, why not?
