One of my favorite professors...

One of my favorite professors in seminary was a man named Emile Caillet. He taught Christian philosophy and had a giant intellect. He had not always been a Christian. Born in a small village in France he had served in the Army during World War I. Having been wounded he found himself in the hospital where he met a Scottish-Irish girl who was a deeply Christian woman. They were married, but Caillet was determined to continue his agnostic approach to life.
One day, his wife passed a Huguenot Church and asked if she might have a Bible. She took it home, not sure what her husband's reaction might be. She gave the book to him. He was receptive enough to take a look because he was going through a trying time in his life.
Opening the Bible he began to read and read and read. He could not put the Bible down. Later, he confessed to his wife that he had been searching for just such a book all of his intellectual life. This is a book, he exclaimed: "that understands me."
With a little guidance, like the Ethiopian eunuch, he discovered Christ who understood his condition and provided the fulfillment that he had always yearned for.
