One of the harder issues...

One of the harder issues that many church leaders continue to face is when couples get
divorced, and they have children going to Sunday school and catechism. Some points to
be made about today's text are first, while divorce is a result of sin, it is not the
unpardonable sin. Second, couples must always ask what is best for the children. This
text reminds us that the Jesus always welcomes children of all ages into the kingdom.
This is why many sacramental churches practice infant baptism.
An example is that of Pastor Jan who had a couple come into her office who announced they were getting a divorce. Their children were in Sunday school and catechism. The divorce would be difficult, as there were many property and financial assets that were contested. Where should the couple go from here? Pastor Jan read the above text and reminded the couple that they still love their children. They needed to think about what their children would see and remember for years to come. This prodded the couple to seek a more amicable solution to their difficulties.
