In January 2011, three Christian missionaries were murdered in India. A father, Graham Staines, and his two sons perished as they slept in their station wagon that was set on fire by religious extremists who opposed Christianity. In the original verdict the Supreme Court exonerated radical leader Dara Singh and his followers with this statement that the killers had acted with the "intention to teach a lesson to Graham Staines about his religious activities, namely, converting poor tribals to Christianity."
