My Dearest Sloane; Words...

My Dearest Sloane;
Words desert me as I try to tell you of all that has happened in the past three days. You've no doubt heard that they crucified Jesus. It was horrible! I can still hear the sound of the hammer as it drove the nails into his hands and feet. I watched as the life ebbed from his body. Heard him cry out, "Father, into your hands I commend my Spirit" (Luke 23:46b). We laid Jesus' body in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea. Because the Sabbath was beginning, we couldn't prepare our Lord's body with the spices and ointments. We couldn't just leave Jesus like that! We had to go back! At dawn the next day Joanna and Mary the Mother of James and some of the other women went with me to the tomb. We were worried about rolling the stone away. But when we got there, the stone was rolled away! Two men in white said to us, "Why are you looking for the living among the dead?" They reminded us that Jesus had said he must be handed over to sinners and be crucified and on the third day, rise. It was too good to be true! But in our hearts we knew it was. Can you believe it? Jesus has risen from the dead! We ran to tell the apostles. They couldn't believe it either. Peter had to go back to see for himself. You know, it's funny. At first I was mad at Peter for not believing us. But as I thought about it I realized that each of us would have to believe for ourselves that Jesus had risen! I believe. I pray that you can. -- Conroy
