Most people think of heaven...

Most people think of heaven as some lush garden paradise. Like the Garden of Eden, it is beautiful, quiet, contemplative, and restful. Like a Caribbean island resort, it is a place that we go to renew and refresh ourselves. But this is not how Saint John describes heaven in his book, Revelation.
Saint John`s heaven comes in the form a city, the new Jerusalem. It is an ancient city; crowded and full of all kinds of people. It is not a place we leave to get away from it all; rather it is the intensification of all our responsibilities. As Eugene Peterson says, "Heaven is formed out of dirty streets and murderous alleys, adulterous bedrooms and corrupt courts, hypocritical synagogues and commercialized churches, thieving tax-collectors and traitorous disciples: a city, but now a holy city (from R
ersed Thunder, p. 174). The Bible begins with the beginning and ends with the beginning: a new heaven and a new earth in the city of Jerusalem. - Bolton
