In March 2008, the mayor of a village in southwest France threatened residents with severe punishment if they die, because there is no room left in the overcrowded cemetery to bury them.
In an ordinance, Mayor Gerard Lalanne warned the 260 citizens of Sarpourenx that "all persons not having a plot in the cemetery and wishing to be buried in Sarpourenx are forbidden from dying in the parish. Offenders will be severely punished."
When Paul tells the Ephesians, "You were dead through the trespasses and sins," but then goes on to share good news of resurrection in Christ, this is not the sort of thing Mayor Lalanne was talking about!
