Paul did not suggest that the grace in which a Christian stands through Christ is an easy, "hand-clapping happy" condition. He did suggest the grace of God is a spring-board to bring about growth in the Christian life and thereby more grace. Charles Wesley wrote, "From strength to strength go on; wrestle and fight and pray; Tread all the powers of darkness down, and win the well-fought day." The great mystery of Christianity is accomplished through suffering which, by God's grace, produces endurance, character, and hope, according to Paul.
