Let everything that you do...

Let everything that you do be a witness to the gospel. All our words and actions tell others where our priorities really are. A woman living in a small town was devastated when she discovered that there was domestic abuse happening in both her son's family and her grandson's family. Her family had always been a leading family in this small community and in the church. Her children and grandchildren were all educated, accomplished, competent people. Yet now this had somehow taken over. Her daughter-in-law went into counseling, but where could she go for support? Among her friends and companions in the community, there were none that she felt she could trust with this kind of burden. Though they were all active church members, they would immediately make it a topic of conversation and gossip. What sort of witness is that to the gospel, what sort of glory does such behavior give to God? And what does it do to a community when the need for confidentiality and for basic trust and respect cannot be met? -- Johnson-Hoy
