The kids in Amy's seventh...

The kids in Amy's seventh-grade class made fun of her. They called her names because she was fat. They laughed at her because she had to wear her mother's old clothes. They hid her notebooks and textbooks so that the teacher would get mad at her. They even refused to let her join a study group. Until now, Amy hadn't been able to do anything about their behavior. But now things were different.
Amy's class had been discussing the law, its place in society and the ways in which it was enforced. As part of that discussion, each study group was asked to write three laws that would govern how class members were to behave for a day. They were also assigned the task of deciding what punishment would be carried out if their laws were broken. Amy knew that this was her chance to get even with her classmates. She could write three laws that were impossible to keep and she could make sure that the punishment was really awful. So why wasn't she feeling elated?
