Kelly had it made. He won $100,000 in a lottery and promptly quit his job. He began to
live the high life, which included wild parties, liquor, drugs, women, and trips. He told
the local newspaper that he was as happy as anyone should ever be. Life was good.
People in his small town thought he was blessed.
But, the blessing didn't last long. Kelly ran through his winnings in less than a year. In that time, he managed to become addicted to cocaine, ran up a large gambling debt, lost his apartment, saw his wife and two children leave him, and his "friends" desert him. A year and two months after Kelly won the lottery, he committed suicide. Never were the words of the presiding minister more appropriate when she read, "But woe to you who are rich now."
