Kay and Paul have been married for over 65 years. In addition to raising their large
family they were both farmers. Paul's father before him was also a farmer. Paul recalls
with fondness the days when the entire valley was nothing but farms. Today that
landscape is vastly different filled with house after house and very few farms.
Every October, the family would gather for a corn roast and picnic. Paul and Kay always looked forward to this special time. Over the years, the number of people attending increased from their children and spouses, then later grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some of the family remained in the area while some live farther away. Yet they all descend to the family farm the first weekend in October. The day is spent talking with various family members, catching up and sharing family news.
As the day winds down, everyone wants to have their picture taken with Kay and Paul. This has become just as much as a tradition as their picnic. Paul has several photo albums filled with pictures of past reunions. It is obvious that Paul and Kay are proud of their family.
The prophet Joel told of a day when, "You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you."
