In Judgment at Nuremberg, Abby Mann brings us into the following dialogue where Ernest Janning is not the only one on trial. What about Winston Churchill who in 1938 said, "send a man of the strength of mind and will of an Adolph Hitler"? What about those who said the Nazi movement would be good for the country? What about the American industrialists who profited from Hitler's war build-up? The Russian pact prior to the war? Was not Ernest Janning's guilt shared by the world? Returning to the defense table, Rolfe looked into the faces of the German people. "There was no applause. But he could see the applause in their eyes. There were tears of emotion there. There was no need for them to rationalize any further. Rolfe had done it all for them."
