Josh had taught swimming at the YMCA for several years now. His students always came away with tremendous skills and a real appreciation for Joshua's teaching ability. Often they would tell their friends how enjoyable Joshua's classes were. Because of such word-of-mouth advertising, Joshua's classes were always filled with enthusiastic students.
One day as class was just about to begin, a pregnant mother of one of the students slipped and fell into the diving end of the pool. Being 20 feet way, Joshua could have hollered instructions to the woman, advising her on how to keep her head above the water, while working her way to the ladder. Instead, he dove into the pool instantly, and brought her to the surface, sputtering, frightened, embarrassed, and grateful for his quick response.
After the class, she met Josh in his office and said, "I want to thank you again for everything. I have never learned to swim, so I got pretty panicky when I fell in. I know you could have treated me like a student and tried to talk me out of the water. But, I'm glad you just jumped in and saved me."
