John Leo, in U.S. News and World Report, June 15, 1998, commented on the escalating vicious attacks on Jesus Christ. He decried the fact that there is very little criticism in the media of those who make the attacks. A play, Corpus Christi, portrayed Jesus as a homosexual. Leo noted that the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights was labeled as bigoted when they protested. A Seattle art show featured paintings of Jesus on an obscene portrayal of the cross. ABC-TV's sitcom, That's Life, ridiculed the crucifixion. And gay activists have marched in parades representing Jesus as some swishy-looking person.
It is no wonder that Jesus is subjected to such scorn, however, when one looks to the Bible. He has always been rejected by the world. In his hometown, after his very first sermon, the townspeople tried to kill him by throwing him down a cliff.
