Jesse was anxious to tell...

Jesse was anxious to tell someone what he had seen. He knew that whomever he told would have difficulty believing his story. He himself had been skeptical at first. But now he just wanted to sit down with someone and tell this fantastic story. As he approached his house, his young son, Samuel, met him and asked him about his trip to hear the traveling rabbi. "Well Samuel," he said, "I just saw something pretty amazing. It's one of those things I want to tell you, but you are probably going to think I am exaggerating. You see, there was quite a crowd that gathered around Jesus out there in the wilderness. I'd say there were at least 5,000 men out there and who knows how many women and children tagged along. Well, we were so excited about hearing the rabbi that practically everyone forgot to pack a lunch to take along ... everyone except that one little boy." "But, what about Jesus?" asked Samuel. "I'm getting to that, Samuel," said Jesse. "Like I said, here we were listening to Jesus, when suddenly we realized that time was flying and we didn't have any lunch. Jesus' disciples found this little boy who had a sack lunch of some bread and fish. After he had us all sit down, he said a prayer and began to distribute this little boy's lunch. Now, this is the amazing part. Everybody had plenty to eat and there were even leftovers for some to take home with them. You remember when we studied the holy writings the other night and we talked about the time when God fed manna to his people out in the desert. It was amost like that. I mean, that's the only way I can explain it to you. God had to be involved. Otherwise, it is a total mystery." Samuel looked up at his father and said, "Well, I suppose if God could do it once, he could certainly do it a second time." -- Thompson
