It is the way of...

It is the way of the world. We read of large contributors to political campaigns receiving access to powerful leaders that most of us can only dream about. A certain amount buys coffee at the White House or a night in the Lincoln bedroom or a weekend at Camp David. How we would love to sit with the president and cabinet officers to share our own dreams for making our nation a kinder, more gentler place to live. If we ever gained access, we would focus long hours of thought on what we would say and what we would ask. We would struggle to find the words that in our imaginations would gain support for our favorite political cause, shaping the course of public policy. But most of us will never have access beyond letters read by secretaries who respond with the appropriate form (or if they are not careful, a form letter addressing a concern different than our concern). The seat of political power might seem beyond our reach, but we do have access to a greater power. The author of Ephesians writes of bold and confident access to God through Jesus Christ. Our way has been paid so that we can enter the courts of divine power and share the concerns of our hearts. We do have a say in the courts of prayer.
