It was obvious to everyone...

It was obvious to everyone that Mike did not want to attend the company Christmas
party. He was looking for any excuse. He told his wife that if he saw as much as a single
snowflake they were not going. Mike really could not put his finger on the reason why he
did not want to attend -- he just wasn't in that festive a mood. Things at work were not
going that well; in fact, he was looking for employment elsewhere.
The day arrived and he still did not want to go. His wife, however, insisted that they go. "It might be fun," she told him. Mike said nothing as they drove thirty minutes to the party. Following dinner, there was a magician to entertain the children. His tricks were predictable but the children present really seemed to be enjoying themselves. Soon their delight and laugher became contagious and the adults joined in the fun. The evening would end with the singing of Christmas carols which again everyone seemed to enjoy.
The drive home was different, more festive. Mike could not stop talking about the evening and how much fun he had. The laughter and the singing of familiar carols lifted his sagging spirits.
Mike did not want to attend, but was certainly glad he did. That evening changed his entire outlook; now he was ready to celebrate the Savior's birth. The prophet Zephaniah foretold of the day when the Lord God "will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in his love; he will exult over you with loud singing as on a day of festival."
