As Israel would thrive as a nation, King David remains mindful that this was with a price
of many great heroes whose lives were lost in battle. On the Fourth of July in America, it
is not a bad idea to remain mindful that many good people have had to die for the
privileges we in our nation and enjoy today.
Rick looks out over the prosperous business that he and his two sons operate. Rick is lucky, as he never had to serve in the armed forces. His dad was killed in World War II, and his older brothers got killed in Korea and Vietnam. Now Rick and his brothers are sitting on a vast family business empire, but he often feels like David in the Old Testament text, as he laments the loss of these great men of the family. Very often, the new life people enjoy today, was due in part to the sacrifice of those in the past.
Our new life is a result of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection.
