If you let a twelve-foot python roam free in your home, you'd better make sure you feed it.
A young man named Grant learned this the hard way back in 1996. According to a New York Times article, the nineteen-year-old victim was found crushed to death by his pet python after failing to feed his snake enough food. According to his mother, Grant would only feed the python one chicken every week. Authorities speculated that the young man was attempting to feed his snake and forgot to wash the smell of chicken off his hands. It is also possible that the python was unhappy with the paltry poultry and decided to try for something bigger. A hungry python can move with amazing speed when hungry -- information that poor Grant could have used.
If you are going to live with a python, you'd better be prepared to feed it well. We reap what we sow.
