If we don't do surgery...

"If we don't do surgery soon, you're in for real trouble."
"If the reinforcements don't arrive soon, we're in for a truckload of trouble."
"If this package doesn't get there by Thursday, I'm in trouble."
We've all experienced impending trouble. We've all lived under imminent fear of the future if something isn't provided to us. However, impending problems also impinge upon us if something isn't true about the past. We can let ourselves in for endless problems if we depend upon something that we trusted yesterday to remain steady and true today. If it's false or merely flimsy, it won't get us to tomorrow.
To paraphrase Paul's chapter 15 in 1 Corinthians, "If Jesus hasn't been raised from the dead, we're in real trouble."
