If we asked the average person whether they knew Jesus had prayed for them, they'd probably say "No." But this high-priestly prayer in the Upper Room is a prayer for us and all the followers of Jesus down through the ages. It's a rather awesome thing to listen to someone else praying a very personal and private prayer to God.
Jesus says he is about to come home to the Father and that departure results in the beginning of the mission of the Apostles in the world, with the aid of the Holy Spirit soon to be given.
There's more than enough to pick and choose from in this passage. There is the theme of the Eleven themselves given to him by God, or their training and his prayer for them, the world out of which they were drawn, or the Name by which they are kept safe, or their and his sanctification/consecration. They (and we) are "set apart" for service while yet in the world, to pass on the gospel of love with such devotion to serve that we may find our unity in the Son.
