"If these were silent, the very stones would cry out." (v. 40)
There are times and occasions when praise of God is a natural and almost unrestrained response of the human soul.
The "Father's room" of the hospital where my daughter was born had a large book with blank pages. Here new fathers were encouraged to record their thoughts at the birth of their children.
My own writing in that book was filled with praise of God for the miracle of human life and love. As I read some of the other responses, I saw the common thread of awe and praise of God. Now, I am certain the writers were not limited to "religious" people. There are key times when God's presence seems particularly near. The church would do well to be sensitive to peoples' need to praise God.
