He was a brilliant scientist. He was the son of a preacher who had sat lightly to the church and had no serious place in his life for religion. On one occasion, while working over abstruse quantum mathematics, he uncovered a formula that had escaped him for years. He had found the key that once and for all opened up for him the transcendent and ineffible nature of the Cosmos. The mysterious universe for him at once became more mysterious and infinite. He sat back and pondered on his conclusions. A sense of awe overwhelmed him.
