He owned the natural gas franchises in about forty cities and towns. He amassed a
fortune. He could buy what he wanted, travel where he wanted, and enjoy just about
everything his eyes saw. His home featured every amenity, and he drove fine cars. His
wealth was secure; life was good.
Then his wife developed cancer. He took her to doctors and clinics all over the world. None had a cure. He spent more to help her find healing than average people make in a lifetime. Nothing worked. He lamented to me of the futility of it all.
