Have you ever experienced times when God seemed hidden, if not altogether absent? And you felt abandoned, orphaned in the dark forest of the world? Those times may have come in a season of sorrow, a job disappointment, a broken family tie, the apparent barrenness of prayer. The only presence you knew of God was the presence of God's absence. You felt desolate, devastated and deserted.
