Harold and Betty had supported missionaries for over thirty years, ever since there were
married. Their church supported missionaries and sponsored an annual missionary
weekend. They enjoyed meeting missionaries who spread the good news of Jesus Christ
in far away places.
One day, the notion entered Harold's mind that they should send an extra gift to one of the missionary families they supported in Europe. Betty thought that was a great idea. They sent a check along with a gift in time for Christmas.
Several weeks later, they received a letter from this missionary family thanking them for their thoughtful gift. The letter also expressed some personal feelings. It had been a difficult year with little progress in starting a new church. In fact, Mike had seriously considered leaving the mission field and returning to the United States. Then they received Harold and Betty's note and gift and realized that there were people who were praying for them and supporting them. It was then that they recommitted themselves to remain in that place and continue the work of the Lord Jesus.
The apostle Paul was going through a difficult time when he received a note of encouragement from some follow believers. In reply, the apostle wrote, "I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now."
