Fulton J. Sheen was a Roman Catholic bishop. In the 1950s, Bishop Sheen spoke on television every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. The program was called Life is Worth Living. One program was titled "War As a Judgment of God." Sheen introduced the subject of judgment by talking about laws. He talked about certain laws God implanted in the universe. These laws are the means things arrive at their distinctive completeness. These laws are "natural laws" and "moral laws." Natural laws reflect the Eternal Reason of God. Fire, for example, must obey the natural law of its nature. "In this sense," said Sheen, "the oak is a judgment on the acorn; the harvest is a judgment on the seed that was sown." God made humanity free. He gave humankind a higher law than the natural law, namely, the moral law. Judgments in the moral order are related to our misuse of freedom. "A headache is a judgment on my refusal to eat ... and atrophy of muscles is a judgment on my refusal to exercise."
