"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be
made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a
quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity" (1 Timothy 2:1).
This scripture is possibly the most neglected of all that the Holy Spirit gave us. I say this because I have a hard time observing it, and from what I've seen, those who actually do this are rarer than orthopedic surgeons at chiropractic conventions.
Do you doubt my assertion? When was the last time that you prayed for a politician that was not of your party?
First-century people didn't appreciate rulers and politicians any more than most of us do. That's why Paul emphasized lifting them up in prayer. We may doubt our leaders' sincerity, acumen, and judgment. Still, we need to pray for them and be thankful for them. Otherwise, we don't honor the God who placed them in office.
