In an age of distrust, where people chafe at anyone having authority over them, there is a lot of resistance to our accountability one to another within churches and among churches. Our culture wants to speak of religion as being a private matter between the believer and God. A rising percentage of our population claim to be spiritual and many of those claim Jesus as their Lord and Savior but they refuse to belong to a church. If asked, they characterize the church as an irrelevant institution full of hypocrites and of more negative than positive support in their faith journey.
