Eileen was twelve years old...

Eileen was twelve years old and she wanted a camera of her own. The camera she had her heart set on had a 35 mm to 70 mm electronically controlled compact zoom lens. It had drop-in loading and film rewinding, auto-focus with auto-focus lock, macro mode, mid-roll Panorama mode, red eye reduction, and much, much more. Her parents said she could have it, if she saved her money. They even offered to help her save it. But Eileen wanted to do it all on her own. All she'd let her parents do was give her jobs so that she could earn some extra money. But after a year of doing odd jobs and saving gift money and allowances, she only had $100. She needed $200 for this camera. Eileen knew she had a problem. No matter how hard she tried to save her money, she'd always end up spending some of her savings. Every time that happened, her parents would offer to help, but Eileen would refuse. She wanted to do it by herself. Time and time again, Eileen would get to the point where she was sure she was going to save enough money. Then something else would come along that she really wanted, like a new CD, a special nail polish, or a poster, and she'd fall behind again. She couldn't understand why she was so weak. Why couldn't she do it by herself? Finally, in desperation, she turned to her parents: "Can you help?"
