Each summer a young city...
Illustration
Each summer a young city boy would spend several weeks in the country visiting with his cousins and helping with the various chores around the farm. Nighttime was always a lonely experience as the lad remembered his family back in the city. On one particular dark evening, while walking outside in the field, he looked up into the woods and saw what appeared to be a large red eye moving about in the thickets. When he asked about it, his grandfather told him it was a wild cat that came out only at night and that he had better be careful. For years the youngster carried with him a fear of darkness. Later in life he learned the secret of why that red eye moved around so much. In total darkness he had lost his point of reference. Had another light or eye been present the young boy would not have seen any movement. He would have recognized the lights as a neon sign over a mile away. As we walk through the darkness of life's experiences, the light of Christ is given and we have a point of reference that can remove our fears. We need not fear "the signs of the time nor the end of the world, nor the waters and fires through which we pass." We can continue to look unto Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith.
