Drugs, gang shootings, and teenage...

Drugs, gang shootings, and teenage sex are as common as the absence of food on the table for most members at Central Church. Parents struggle to make ends meet. Life isn't easy, but it has been easier since Doc came to town five years ago. Doc started a men's group at church. He saw the women meeting and studying and wanted to know why he couldn't enjoy that. He was recruited to do something about it. Slowly, men came to worship, study, and share. And Doc continued to ask questions. Doc demanded to know why the church wanted more youth to come, yet decorated the youth room with castoffs and broken furniture. "What kind of message is that?" Doc challenged. He got together a group who held bake sales and sing-a-thons to raise money for a new CD player and furniture. The youth got to decorate the room. Doc, a psychiatrist by profession, met with the young people to talk to them about their lives. He was committed to them, and he was their role model. Central Church was never the same after that. The youth started taking the initiative to find baby-sitters so moms could shop on Saturdays. They taught Sunday school and paired up with the elementary school children as prayer buddies. They led worship. Doc, the pastor, and all the members at Central have been changed in a way they never expected, but in a way that God wanted them to be. God knew their potential. God had a plan for them!
