The congregation really didn't know...

The congregation really didn't know how to understand their new minister. Much younger Pastor David was so different than the now retired Pastor Sam. For 30 years, Sam had ably led the congregation. He was intense, serious, and competent. Although he dearly loved the people and they loved him, he tolerated no nonsense. It was almost as though Pastor Sam thought having a good time was a sin.
Pastor David was different. He loved to laugh, was quick with a joke, and even participated in an occasional "practical joke." The congregational leadership was a little uneasy about this style before "The Dinner" plans were announced. The day the first publicity on that meal was released, they knew they had to talk with him.
Their new pastor had scheduled an all-church fellowship dinner with a speaker who was billed as "A WellKnown Humorist." The leaders were baffled. How could this be justified as a proper activity for othe church?
Pastor David explained it this way. "In fact, laughter is a gift of God. I am convinced it is God's lubricant for squeaky human relationships. When we celebrate the joys of life, the friction and tensions are lessened."
Pastor David draws on the wisdom of King David. The king had a couple of tough days. He concluded them with a night of dancing and celebrating. From time to time, we all need to cut loose and dance the night away.
