As Christians, we want to...

As Christians, we want to take seriously Christ's desire for unity among fellow believers. A few years ago, when I was new to town, I called up the pastor of the Independent Baptist Church and introduced myself. And I said, "Hey, let's go out to coffee at the local diner. I'll buy it; it'll be my treat. I'd really like to get to know you." He said, "No, I really can't go today. I've got so much to do." I said, "Well, how about tomorrow? You name the time." He said, "No, I really can't meet with you."
I asked, "What do you mean?" He said, "Well, if any of my church people saw me with you, it would stir up some trouble for me. I really can't have coffee with you. But thank you for asking." So much for Christian unity. - Riether
