The brothers of Taize live together under a common rule in order to make themselves more available in Christ's service. Regarding celibacy Roger Schuta explains: "If celibacy brings greater availability to concern oneself with the things of God, it is acceptable only in order to give oneself more fully to one's neighbor with the very love of Christ."
Thomas Kelly in his devotional classic, A Testament of Devotion, suggests that it is possible not to be distracted from doing God's will even in the midst of a busy family life too. The secret is to live life from the Center letting God sort out our responsibilities so that we are not driven this way and then that way without a real sense of direction. We make our decisions not in haste or under pressure but on the basis of inner guidance and the promptings of the Spirit from the Center of our being. According to Kelly: "Life from the Center is a life of unhurried peace and power."
