The book of Romans ends...

The book of Romans ends with a doxology, which is a "praise to God." Romans proclaims the Advent of Jesus Christ and his future return, which will bring to completion the plan Paul describes in his letter. The doxology is what gives us the strength to live and to share the gospel. It is the foundation on which we stand and face the world. "A journalist relates a great incident of the Spanish Civil War. There was a little garrison of beleaguered men. The end was near and some wished to surrender and so to save their lives; but others wished to fight on. The matter was settled when a gallant soul declared: 'It is better to die upon our feet than to live upon our knees' " (Barclay, Letter to the Romans, p. 221). Saint Paul would stand upon the doxology as he would soon face his executioner, the Roman emperor, Nero. "Now to God who is able to strengthen you ..." (v. 25). -- Bolton
